Supraja Dharini (2008)
TREE Foundation Trust for Environmental Education, Conservation and Community Development, Bay of Bengal Ecologists and Conservationists Network (BEACON)
Supraja Dharini, Global Fellow 2008, is the founder, chairperson and trustee of the TREE Foundation Trust for Environmental Education, Conservation and Community Development. TREE is a member of the Roots and Shoots International Network, which is a program of the Jane Goodall Institute.
Supraja is also the founder of the Bay of Bengal Ecologists and Conservation Network (BEACON). The concept for BEACON arose from discussions with other Global Fellows at the Marine Lab:
"...after many meetings and discussions with Dr. Karen Eckert and Dr. Larry Crowder, we have planned to start a network with ocean (marine mammals, sea turtles, corals, megafauna) conservationists in the Bay Of Bengal Region. We will also try to link up with past global fellows from Sri Lanka and India and form a network for a better understanding and conservation workability in the Bay of Bengal region for man and mega fauna to live in harmonious co existence. Step by step we will proceed - “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”
Supraja hopes to have the network up and running and 2009, with a website soon to follow. Check back soon for more updates!
