Angela Dikou (Greece) scip7318@nus.edu.sg
Angela is a Ph.D. student at the National University of Singapore. She earned a BSc in Biology at Aristotle University (Greece) and MSc in Tropical Coastal Management at Newcastle Upon Tyne University, UK. She is studying the effects of sedimentation on hard corals and coral reef communities in Singapore. She has also researched coral reef ecology in Okinawa. Angela hopes to work on sustainable management of aquatic resources in Greece.
Pelatiah Fonbah (Cameroon) nweng@hotmail.com
Pelatiah is completing a Masters in Marine Management degree at Dalhousie University (Canada). Her BSc was in Marine Science at Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone. Pelatiah is studying the management and conservation of a skate fishery in the Eastern Scotian Shelf. She hopes to remain in Canada and work in the management of Marine Protected Areas.
Naresh Kuppuswami (India)
Naresh works at the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in Ahmedabad. His BSc was in Zoology (University of Madras) and his MSc was in Environmental Biology (Annamalai University). Naresh also has a postgrad diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (Madras). He has worked in advertising, public relations and journalism as well as in environmental education with a number of NGOs. He is now curator of the CEE’s reptile park and teaches environmental education courses. He is working to introduce turtle excluder devices (TEDs) to India’s trawl fisheries.

Yaniv will complete a BSc in Marine Science (Israel Maritime College, Hebrew University) this fall. Yaniv has been a scuba diver for over 13 years, and his experience includes dives in the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean (Galapagos) and the Indian Ocean (Seychelles-Aldabra). He has conducted sea turtle research in Aldabra and Cyprus. He founded the Israeli Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center in March 1999 and plans to continue in sea turtle research and conservation.
Paul Marshall (Australia) p.marshall@gbrmpa.gov.au
Paul is completing his Ph.D. in coral reef ecology at James Cook University, Australia. His BSc was in Zoology (University of Melbourne). His doctoral research focuses upon the ecological and management implications of physical impacts on coral reefs. He has recently taken a position at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Paul plans to foster “the use of science to manage and conserve the marine environment.”
Luis Mencias (Phillipines)
Luis is an MS student in Environmental Science (University of the Phillipines, Diliman, Quezon City). His BS was in physical education (UP). Luis has been a scuba diver for over 20 years, is a NAUI instructor and underwater photographer. He is president and co-founder of the Marine Ecosystem Council, a non-profit, volunteer organization that conducts marine conservation projects as well as educational programs. One award-winning project he leads seeks to culture and re-seed endangered giant clams to reefs throughout the Phillipines.

Ronnie is a graduate student in Rural Development at Liberia College of Professional Studies. His BSc was in Biology (University of Liberia). Ronnie has been active in natural resource conservation and sustainable development for the past 13 years; he has worked for a number of environment and development NGOs. He is currently program coordinator for SAMFU (Save My Future) Foundation, and in June 1999 he initiated the Liberia Sea Turtle Project to promote turtle conservation. Ronnie is also a cartoonist and has written and edited a number of environmental comics!
Jason Thompson (British Columbia, Canada)
Jason received his BS in Biology from University of Victoria, and now works as an environmental educator at Bamfield Marine Station. Jason has also worked as a commercial diver, a deckhand on a salmon troller, and has spend over 250 days as an at-sea observer on commercial fishing vessels. He also worked for the Vancouver Aquarium, presenting marine science programs all over BC. He is now developing an education outreach package on Sustainable Fisheries.

Gidon is a MSc student in Ecology and Environmental Quality at Tel Aviv University; his BSc was from Haifa University. His research uses a non-intrusive fluorometry technique to measure coral photosynthesis. The goal is to develop an early detection technique for coral stress in the Red Sea. Gidon has also worked in environmental education for the Society for Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) and for the Nature Reserves and National Parks Authority. He is also taking courses in environmental law and hopes to work on integrating science into marine policy.
